Petra Seiz

The original images were taken on different Graffiti Photo Walks through various artsy neighborhoods in Johannesburg. I was immediately attracted to the impressive array of Street Art. I was shown that art can arise everywhere and under even bad conditions. With this series of artworks I give an interpretation of my experiences with these poverty-stricken areas. I want to show the contrast between beauty and decay’s ugliness, between energetic creativity and negligence. The mixed media artworks were realised with a mixture of silver foil, oxidation medium, oil colors and cold wax. The finished artwork was reshot for a print version.
